An enjoyable monthly luncheon took place at the RACV Club in August. OTI Racing and Bloodstock’s CEO Terry Henderson (1966) was our Keynote speaker. Terry gave a thorough outline of the issues and challenges facing the racing industry. He spoke passionately of his love of breeding and racing horses. Issues of racing industry management, politics, prize money, Sydney-Melbourne rivalry, and the success template of country racing in carnivals like the Jericho Cup in Warrnambool were all featured. Terry is always informative, and his delivery reflects someone with a great passion for the industry.
Peter Johnston (1973) was our Master of Ceremonies for the first time and did a great job filling in for Pat Mount (1963) who was having a holiday up north. Attendees were updated on OPA activities and provided progress scores as our College 1stXV111 went back-to-back Herald Sun Shield winners completing an undefeated football season.
It is wonderful to see many nonagenarians, all regulars at the lunch, in attendance again. Lance Phillips (1945), Peter Walker (1946), Ray Hangan (1950), John Mackey (1950), and Denis Wheelahan (1951) all enjoyed lunch, the catchup and the presentation. This is truly remarkable, just as this Old Paradians Lunch approaches its 90th year!
