Seen enjoying a frappé at Olives in the Soho neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City is 1984 final year Parade College student Jon Ellks and his wife Megan . . . oh and Nicholas Edward Cave AO.
In a text message to OPA Central, Jon explained that he and his better half had spent the best part of the previous week in The Big Apple with fellow Old Paradian John Doherty (1984), on the occasion of John's wife Jenny’s 50th birthday.
“Meg and I had just popped into Olives for a coffee and a sandwich, and as soon as I sat down I recognised him (Cave),” John said.
“I snuck a sneaky little pic of Meg with Mr. Cave in the background, and then out of sheer luck ‘Docca’ walked passed with Jen and snapped this shot.”
Cave, the noted Australian musician, singer-songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional film actor best known as the frontman of the rock band The Bad Seeds, was in town for the “So, What Do You Want to Know?” session at New York City’s Peter Norton Symphony Space. There he alternated between performing some of his most beloved songs on grand piano and fielding questions from the audience.
Together with the Bad Seeds, Cave will perform a series of nine shows in locales including Mexico, Chile, Los Angeles and Toronto, as part of the band’s North and Latin American Tour commencing October.
If you’re an Old Paradian and you’ve been snapped with a celeb, send through a pic to Tony.DeBolfo@parade.vic.edu.au, as we’d love to share it with the ever-growing OPs network.
