The beautiful Rosanna Golf Club hosted the Old Paradians’ Association Annual Golf Day again this year. Following on from the great day held last year, Steve Nailer (1987) and ‘The General’ Luke Thomas (1988) again did a fantastic job in organising the event. Clearly our players really enjoy the day as the vast majority of the 2023 participants returned for this year’s event.
Sincere thanks to Steve and Luke and the sponsors that donated prizes on the day. Sponsors included, Qube Logistics, Rosanna Golf Club, Rod Harvey (1978) and Leckys, Andrew Bennett (1999) form Veritas Recruitment, Peter Reid from Asahi, Nick Puccio (1987) from Look Blinds and Curtains and the Old Paradians’ Association.
The day commenced with controversy. With thoughts going back to the 2020 Presidential election, when Donald Trump claimed to be cheated, David Stuckey (1988) claimed the 2023 result was compromised and in fact his team won the event. Jeremy Salzano (1987) who led the winning team in 2023 quickly put the unrest to bed. Clearly a skilful lawyer, Jeremy quickly silenced the Stuckey claim.
The Peter Walker Trophy named after Peter Walker (1946) the pioneering organiser of the event almost did not make it to the event needing some urgent repair work after a fall the day before!
This year the handicapped event produced both an individual winner and a team winner. The individual winner of the Peter Walker Trophy was Craig Fuller (1987) with a score of 49, runner-up, Peter Stackpole on 42. The Lou Arthur Memorial Trophy for the winning team this year was ‘The General’ Luke Thomas (1988), David Stuckey (1988), Paul Digney (1988) and Craig Fuller (1987) with a score of 106. David believed justice was served. Team runner-up with a score of 101 points included Gavin Pilkington (1990), Chris Mullins (1988), Justin O’Brien (1988) and Peter Caven (1988) who travelled over from Adelaide for the event.
Nearest the pin winners included Tony Weston (1984). Joseph Seneca (2003), David Stuckey (1988) and Paul Thompson (1987). Terry Romari (1988) had the longest drive.
Over 90 participated in the day including pre-game and post-game food and drinks commencing with registration from 11:15 am with shotgun start from 12:30 pm. A dinner was held for those that wished to stay, this year 60 stayed for the dinner after the presentations were completed.
The day was a tremendous success. The Old Paradians' Association is so very grateful for all who supported the event. Special thanks to Rosanna Golf Club General Manager Luke Bleumink and Hospitality Supervisor Chelsea Symon for hosting us on the day. They did a magnificent job.
We look forward to the event again in November 2025!
