Over 60 old collegians from the class of 1994 gathered at the Old England Hotel to celebrate their 30-year school reunion.
It was great to see the large number of Old Paradian's in the room which not only reflected their affection for their time at the College but also the networking among the group in getting the word out about the night.
As is customary at our reunions, we remember those men who have passed away from the year level. We respectfully took a moment to remember Brendan Phelan and his family at this time. We also remembered those members of staff who had passed away.
The Prefect team from 1994 was well represented on the night with the two Vice Captains Daniel Harford and Simon Grant in attendance. Other Prefects included David Amoroso, Julian Barro, Clint Ramaekers, Ryan Wilson (who travelled down from Sydney), Jarrod Malloy, Santino Mercuri, Paul McCrohan and Daniel De Fazio.
It was a very successful year in sport with the 1st XV111 led by Daniel Harford winning the Herald Shield backing up after the 1993 win and the swimming team led by Blake Caracella.
I was able to update the group on the many events and activities the Association has been engaged in and encourage them to stay connected. Daniel Harford was invited to reflect upon his school days with some amusing and funny recollections but spoke with great pride at being connected to such a great school. He thanked the Association for putting on the night.
Former staff member Darren Marx was in attendance. He was able to share that his first teaching day at Parade at the new Waterford Campus was with this group. He reflected after “It was a full circle moment for me - the class of 94’ being the first kids I ever taught, at the opening year of Waterford Campus. Having left teaching 25 years ago to hit the world of corporate law, it was rather cathartic and good for my soul to see my kids as men. I left very content and fulfilled.” Ian Bibby also attended having led the Cricket X1 that included an interstate carnival.
Special thanks to Hayley Workman for the organisation of the event. Hayley has recently joined the Development Office as Alumni Assistant. She was able to catch up with AFL Umpire Mat Nicholls who was in attendance. She had previously worked at the AFL Umpires Association where she had met Mat.
I understand there was some ‘kicking on’ that took place!
Congratulations Class of 1994!
