The Old Paradians’ Association (OPA) has established a Career Assistance Program designed to facilitate vocational opportunities for individuals and businesses aligned with the Parade College community.

The program will initially involve the Old Paradians’ Association Amateur Football Club (OPAAFC), whose senior team recently earned promotion to Division 1, in assisting both players and support staff on their career pathways. It will draw on the support of the many hundreds of Old Paradians and friends of Parade within the OPA’s extensive business network.

The benefits of the Career Assistance Program are already on show at Secon Freight Logistics – the Considine family company of which Old Paradian Steve Nailer (1987) is the CEO.

In June this year, Secon employed Beau Calow and James Healy (2018), both of whom represented the Old Paradians as players at Under 19 level (Beau as captain), on a full-time basis.

“The values displayed by Beau and James on the football field are the same as those adopted by the Considines in business – they bring a good work ethic, present well and recognise opportunity,” Steve said.

“The boys have slotted straight in. Beau works at our North Altona warehouse and James at our warehouse in Brooklyn under the watch of another Old Paradian Martin Bills.

OPAAFC President Mike Jolley welcomed the Association’s Career Assistance Program.

“The Old Paradians’ Association Amateur Football Club see this as a great initiative to assist current players and prospective players in advancing their career opportunities,” OPAAFC President Mike Jolley said.

“In the Amateur environment in which our club participates, that is, not paying players, this is a tangible way in which our club can reward players for being part of our club. We fully support the initiative and look forward to working with the Old Paradians Association.”
