A wonderful get together was held at the Old England Hotel E. Bar for the Parade Class of 1984. There was a terrific atmosphere in the room with much conversation, reminiscing and laughter prevailed.
Staff members John Joss, John Ramsdale, Ian Bibby and John Nicholls were able to attend. Joe Marchio was an apology. He reflected that the 1984 class was the first where a practical Year 12 subject that he developed was introduced, Materials Design Studies.
We were able to respectfully acknowledge those men that have passed away since leaving the College. They included Mark Beccia, Darren Buckley, Joseph Chiodo, Stepen Crotty, Kevin Doyle, Andrew Ellul, John Heath, Glen McCormach, Brendan McIntyre, Chris O Rourke and Nicholas Serritelli.
It was great to see Rob Wood who flew in from Perth where he and his wife run ‘Topend Sport’. Rob is a highly qualified sports scientist completing a PHD at the University of Western Australia. Other high achievers at the reunion, Associate Professor Cliff Connell, who is Deputy Director Graduate Research in Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University. Noel Clement OAM received his award for his tireless work of over 20 years domestically and on the world stage. Jon Ellks who has recently retired from VicPol was acknowledged for his efforts in the Black Saturday bushfires when stationed at Whittlesea. Jon was the inaugural recipient of the Old Paradians Association Community Service Award for his contributions to the people of Kinglake in the aftermath of the fires.
There was much sharing of family, career paths and College Captain John Belleville spoke of his journey and the appreciation he has for the College. He reflected on the journey to date and what lies ahead and the joy of reconnecting with classmates after so many years.
The Association is thrilled that over 100 have engaged with us at our last two reunions and we look forward to continuing our reunion program in 2025.
Special thank you to Hayley Workman who has joined the Old Paradians Association as Alumni Officer for her work in the organisation of the event.
