A reunion of the graduating class of 1982 was held at the Old England Hotel's e.Bar on Friday 19 August. 55 members of the group were able to gather with former staff members John and Tricia Joss and John Nicholls.
Lexie Stewart, our Old Paradians Association Alumni Assistant was with John to welcome our alumni. Each guest was presented with a small gift, an Old Paradians' Association lapel badge, which was most appreciated.
The atmosphere in the room was warm and friendly where our Old Collegians were able to connect again and reminisce about their time at Parade and life after. Many spoke of the journey since leaving school and the different paths, many unexpected, that had occurred.
We were able to remember those alumni that have passed away since leaving the College with a moments silence. Peter Cashen, Terence Fletcher, Shaun McCormack, Kevin Meath, Ross Phillips, Dermot Spilane and Dean Windram.
John invited the 2 Vice Captains to the microphone, Gerard Dowling and David Jones to reflect on their school experience and what it means to be an Old Paradian. Both spoke with pride and gratitude to their parents for sending them to Parade and for the friendships that have been forged. They extended their appreciation for the attendance of those in the room and the Association for organising the event.
Current College staff member Paul Jakubic was in attendance. Paul is doing some terrific work as a Plumbing teacher and curriculum writer in his time on staff. SRC members from 1982 Peter Gleeson, Joe Natoli, Damian Ellul, David Jackson and Damian Casamento were in attendance. Treasurer of the Old Paradians' Association Angelo Mazzone was also in attendance. Angelo assisted greatly in contacting alumni to let them know of the event. Jamie Geary, Vice-Captain of the 1st XVIII and a great support to the College through apprenticeship and work experience opportunities was also in the room.
In his address, John Nicholls was able to outline the events and activities the OPA is currently engaged in. In addition to our reunion program, we have established a Parade College Foundation, established an OPA website and have links to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. John invited them to attend the OPA Hall of Fame Annual Dinner planned for 21 October this year.
John encouraged guests to stay in touch and connected with the Old Paradians’ Association by joining us on social media, where we post about upcoming events and alumni news. Additionally, to connect or update their contact details via OPA Connect.
We look forward to future opportunities to catch up.
