PARADE COLLEGE

FRANK MOUNT

1903 - 1989

Frank completed his schooling at Parade College in 1918 commencing in 1914. His love and loyalty to Parade remained with Frank for the rest of his life. His father John Mount was one of the 200 students in attendance for the first school day of the Christian Brothers in Australia in January 1869 on the site of St Francis Church Melbourne. Starting his life in tough working-class conditions, Frank became arguably Melbourne’s leading caterer in a 20-year period from 1946-1966. Frank was a man of integrity in business, scrupulously fair in all his dealings.

Frank is a distinguished Old Paradian. He was the inaugural recipient in 1974 of the Association’s highest honour at the time, the prestigious Tenete Award for outstanding services to the College and the Old Paradians’ Association. Throughout his life, Frank and his wife Phoebe were of strong Catholic faith with Sunday Mass and prayer an important part of their lives. His strong association to the Catholic Church and particularly the Christian Brothers were lifelong. Frank served on the Committee of the Old Paradians’ Association as President from 1962-1963 and a regular Committee member. He was actively involved in fundraising activities to support the College.

The ‘Frank Mount Social Rooms’ next to the Garvey Oval are a tribute to Frank’s loyalty and service to the Association, the College, and the Old Paradians’ Football Club. Frank with his great friend Lou Arthur, was one of the founders of the Old Paradians’ Football Club in 1929. Frank served the Club as a Committee member from 1931-1988! In that time, he was Senior Coach 1931-1936, and 1952, President 1938-1947 and 1967-1969 and for many years he was Chairman of Selectors.

Frank passed away in September 1989 aged 86 years. He is a remarkable story of faith in action and loyal servant of the Christian Brothers, Parade College, the Old Paradians’ Association and the Old Paradians’ Football Club.
